It has a stainless steel construction. There are three grating blades: fine for breadcrumbs, cheese, chocolate, and nutmeg; medium for pulping fruits and vegetables; and coarse for hard vegetables like potatoes and beets. As for durability, I’ve had my KitchenAid Box Grater for more than 3 years, and there’s nary a hint of rust; more amazingly, the blades still seem as sharp as they did the day I used it for the first time. My mom bought me the Kitchenaid Box Grater handheld zester a few years back. This versatile kitchen utensil is good. Now the first positive that I found about using the KitchenAid Box Grater is that the item works exactly as it is described.
I am not fully satisfied with the Kitchenaid Box Grater. When my sister visited me home during last vacation she was so captivated by this that, finally I had to part with my grater. It has completely replaced my cheese shredder and this grates the Mozzarella and Parmesan with breathtaking speed and of desired size. I understand that they have done some cosmetic changes to make it user friendly but still this call for lot of small yet significant improvements to overcome the design flaws and I am sure in that case it will become the ultimate cheese grater. May be it is not wise to use this for grating large amount of stuff for a feast but this is more than enough for everyday household use.
The nonslip feet tilt in four directions for ease of use, and the fine grater slides out to simplify cleaning of interior surfaces. Anytime you need a food cut into tiny pieces ask yourself, “can I use my cheese grater for that?”. This item works great. It features three of the most popular grating blades - fine, medium ribbon and extra coarse - along with an additional fourth slicer blade. It features four functional grating surfaces without taking up a lot of space in your drawer. The fascination for the box grater attracted me towards the Kitchenaid model and I was quite satisfied with it.
If that’s all I could do with the KitchenAid, I’d still love it. The fine blade zests citrus, grates hard cheeses, nuts, and garlic. This is an outstanding grater that shreds cheese amazingly.
