Types of Diet Pills and their Potential Side-effects
Approximately 60% of Americans are considered overweight. Everyone wants quick-fix solutions resulting to a booming diet industry. There are numerous diet plans for consumers to choose from and along with them are the potential problems of weight loss pills misuse.
There are three major types of diet pills available in the market:
1. Prescription diet pills – the FDA closely regulated aids requiring prescription and monitoring of a physician.
2. Over-the-counter diet pills – widely available at drug stores, supermarkets, and discount stores. They do not require prescription but are also monitored by the FDA.
3. Herbal diet pills – considered as food more than drugs by FDA, regulation is different and is more lax than prescription diet pills.
Some of the negative side-effects of these diet pills are the following:
Painful gas and diarrhea
Stimulant bearing appetite suppressants elevates heart rate and blood pressure increasing risks of heart attack
Herbal remedies, though claimed to be “all natural”, have various side effects akin to synthetic diet pills.
The market is saturated with all sorts of diet pills. Many are regulated by the Food and Drug Administration. But consumers tend to use diet pills improperly, neither taking the time to know more about them or their complementary program which is healthy eating and regular exercise.
